Happy Anniversary to my better half

Happy anniversary to my wonderful husband. Today we've been married 6 years and haven't we done some great things in the last six years, the kids are being the main one.

Anyway with all that's been going on we both forgot, but good old google photos showed me a memory and I managed to catch James in forgetting. I did confess just after that I had too!

This weekend we've burnt some wood from the demolition, only stuff with paint on that I wouldn't put in the wood burner. The builders had built the fire and we halved the wood in it putting some away for winter. We then took half again off to one side to put on gradually and it was still way too fierce, just about scared me to death. If they'd have burnt the original pile like they planned to tomorrow I think our woodshed and cabin would have gone up. I'll have to have a word.

On Saturday whilst James was doing some disconnecting the kids wanted to play playmobil. It was a  set we'd had from a friend's daughter and most of it had never been put together. By the time I got it all set up as a zoo the kids had long since lost interest. I took a photo though, I was proud of my work.

The boiler was disconnected and the pipes moved. It all went well and on Saturday night we had a nice hot shower. Come Sunday morning the bloody boiler wouldn't work. What's wrong you may ask? Who knows, it's done this before but as the only thing it will be heating water for is the kitchen tap we have decided not to bother messing with it until the build is done and it's in the final location. We'll boil a kettle to wash up. Still it's a pain in the ass, but I doubt it'll be the last before we're done.

Today we got some bits from screwfix and got into the garden to plant out some veg. I had to pull a whole load of leeks so I could fit stuff into the bed. The leeks went into a leek and potato soup that we had for tea and I put the rest in jars to freeze to eat over the next few weeks. You may notice that I have some re-usable tatler lids that I bought from amazon.com and had shipped here. It was exciting to use them for the first time, even if only to seal the jars.

Excuse the mess!

I got up the ladder on Saturday to take some final pictures of our bedroom, it's like an earthquake hit.

Some of you guys were envious of our water storage tanks and I hear you. Unfortunately I'm not sure the building control inspector will be happy, but hopefully the tank at the back can stay, if we line it properly it could be immense.

  2. thanks for such a huuuuge laugh Kirsty! i thought our mushroom cave of a bedroom was pretty bad - but i have to admit - your bedroom takes the cake!!! and wins 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize! congratulations on your anniversary - we never remember ours either...and from everything i've read on the interwebs, if you forget your annivesary regulary - it means that every day feels like your anniversary - which is why you never remember it! and that's a really good thing.

you have so much to be proud of - including your little mobile and your leek and potatoe soup. you guys are an inspiration to all of us...though many of us be older than you. and i will use your blog to announce that i got a mermaid tail! woohoo! finally! i've always thought i was a mermaid and now i am 45 and have one! i'll put a pic of it on our blog soonish. but i just thought that you would think it ridiculously wonderfull that i finally got one. oh i can't wait to wear it in the river, the ocean and of course, the hottub!

you guys are doing so well...and with the little ones....i can't claim anything to any of your accomplishments but i am awesomely sooo proud of you both.

and sending much love. your friend,
    kymber

    1. That was smart forward planning to pick a date you'd remember. We picked the last weekend before the high season so it would be warmish and cheaper, that's us all over, tight... I mean careful.

  4. Happy Anniversary! Hope you both have a great day. Good idea with the leeks, I've been pondering what to do with ours for a while now, this has given me a kick to get something done with them!

    1. Tricky Wolf, seems like leeks hang around for ages for everyone, they don't have a short shelf (garden) life like other veg so they get left and left. Hope the soup went well.

  5. Wow. You were sure a beautiful bride. Your husband is a lucky guy, I've known that since I started reading your blog. You're a good wife and a good mother. I got myself a woman like that and seems he did too.

Glad you didn't get a fire spreading. I am hyper careful about fire, living in the middle of a forest as I do. It can surprise you in the blink of an eye.

I see you are moving on with your canning. Now that Miriam is retired I think maybe we will try it again. She has a garden going, and that makes it practical. I figured out that buying produce to can was not as cost effective as just buying canned vegetables in the store, but if you grow your own that changes the equation.

When you have been married 24 more years you will have made it to where Miriam and I are now. Kids grown up and gone, don't have to work anymore. Sweet!

    1. Harry you are such a charmer, I bet you were worse before you met your wife and were in your military uniform!

I don't care much for fire unless it's in a wood burner, the wind changes and it's so unpredictable.

I am sure Miriam can grow you a huge haul of tomatoes, think of all the meals you could make with them, canned for the end of days, or a cold winter evening. You guys enjoy your retirement, I am sure you have both earned it.

    1. Emma I've looked for your blog before, I'm not sure it's linked to your profile? or maybe it's my ineptitude. Bless you for the kind thought!

  7. Those jars are not meant for the freezer. They have shoulders. Use the Ball jars with straight sides for the freezer.
