Stud work started

I've had this week off work and couldn't I ever get used to it! James has taken the day off work today and tomorrow and we have done some stud walling in the upstairs extension. The kids have been in and out all day keeping us company and 'helping'. It's great to get a feel for the size of the rooms, looking at the en-suite, we're pretty sure we'll not have the en-suite now but use the room as a main bathroom.

Baby girl was loving spying with her binoculars

I got my first full-sized tomatoes from the greenhouse today; we had them with mozzarella and basil as a salad and they were so tasty. I'll definitely be growing this variety again.

We also found a courgette on the plant we missed, I had James stand in the photo for context! He said it weighs as much as a baby, oops.

This week James went on a course to certify him to do household electrics as well as the industrial he can do at the moment, there's a further course that he'll have to do soon but for now he passed, so well done angel.

  1. In reply to your comment on my blog that you can't believe how quickly it's coming along. Well, we broke ground in September of 2010, and we moved into one room in the basement in September of 2012! So, to me, it's taken a long, long time. It looks like you are coming along nicely with your cottage. I have never heard of a course to certify in household electrics. My husband is an electrician but he had to go to school and get his "Journeyman's card." Amazing the way things are done differently, depending on where you live.

    1. It's amazing how at the end with the finishing touches a build starts to look like a home. James did an apprenticeship to be an electrical engineer that took 5 years but you need to do some regulation courses to make sure you're up to date with current laws for household electrics.

  3. Slowly, slowly - and before you know it you'll be all moved in 😉 But, oh, the finishing always seems to take so much longer than the major part. Hang in there, won't be toooo much longer 😀

    1. We're just pleased that it's got to this stage and we're willing to wait.

  4. I was thinking about how you have chronicled your building experiences. You have photos of every stage. When we built our place up here, we didn't take pictures. I sure wish we had. I've heard people say the things a person puts on their blog stays there forever on the internet. So when your kids are grown up, they can look back and see how the place was fixed up when they were little. And when you and your husband are old people , you can look back and see what you accomplished so long ago, and take satisfaction in it.

    1. We're hoping that by keeping a blog we'll remember the little details and that the kids will be able to watch themselves grow up.
